What you see

The other day I was out with my family at a restaurant. I was standing outside afterward waiting for my wife to come outside. I noticed a young man, probably 16 or 17 maybe. He was helping an elderly person (probably his grandmother) get to the car. He wasn't just walking behind her making sure she didn't fall. He had ahold of her the entire way, making sure she was safe.

It made me smile. For one, no matter how ugly the world seems. No matter how many times a person sees young men/women/teens being disrespectful to their elders, things like this are a welcome reminder of what is good in the world. The care he showed her was very impressive. Second, this is a perfect picture of Jesus. Watching over us. Not from afar off or even just standing behind us. It was a picture of Him being so close and that He would never let anything harm us.
Finally, it is a reminder that everything is all how we see it. If we focus on the bad things in the world, we will miss the beauty in the world. We have a choice every day on what we see, good or bad. Let's all choose to see the world through the lens of the love of Jesus. To see the beauty of His creation. To see the good in everything. Jesus did. He saw the good in the "ugly." The things, the attitudes, what the world says is ugly, He says it is beautiful. His creation is beautiful. Amazing. We just have to look for it.
